Latest trailer for The Last Airbender is out.
It looks so good I’m beginning to not care that Aang never smiles.
And is white.
Along with everyone else.
Except the Indians.
Who are the bad guys.
Anyway, Appa bitches!
Also, the Blue Spirit!
And Roku’s dragon!
And Tui and La!
And the fight at the Spirit Oasis!
And Yue as a blue-eyed, white haired… well, white girl. Which is less genetically interesting.
Also some hastily tacked on 3-D! Thanks Hollywood!
Doesn’t look like Koizilla is going to make the cut, which may be wise considering how silly that could accidentally look.
I hope every fight isn’t in slow-mo, considering how much movie I want them to fit in, but it looks pretty boss so maybe it won’t be so bad.
Verdict: Looks good enough to see, and even if it blows we still have the television show.

Alas, the effects of a Michael Bay following society: Even M. Knight seems to be marketing it as a pure action film. The speaker discusses the plot, but based on what is shown, it doesn’t look like there’s a story. We all know there will be though – not only because of the show, but because it’s M. Knight. So I’m not worried…I blame it on the marketing dept. There’s got to be some comic relief…it can’t all be doom/gloom. Well, I guess it can be, but I hope not.
Effects look pretty good. Appa looks awesome, CG doesn’t look contrived or overlayed – it all blends well. My only complaint is that the magnitude doesn’t come through. The water bending looked weak (a water arc 7′ high? that’s it) and the earth bending looked small (a barrier barely protecting you…why stop there? go big). I realize that some of that has to get scaled down for a live-action film, but does it have to go that small?
I want to see Toff and Suki in one of these previews. I think that might have been Toff throwing up the earth barrier, but it was a shot from behind, I can’t tell.
All in all, I’ll be going. I don’t care if I”m going alone.

Yeah, they’re definitely going for that Harry Potter, Legend of the Seeker, heavy is the head that got bitched by fate, kind of vibe. I hope your right that it’s a marketing thing.
I do hope Suki will be in here, but Toph probably won’t be until the second movie (where hopefully better earthbending will prevail).
I thought some of the water effects (even without the tidal wave part) were impressive enough. The fire benders NEEDING fire is a curious choice for how it limits the bad guys.
One thing that made me chuckle was that for a movie called The Last Airbender, he sure bends a lot of water in the trailer. I mean, we all get it, but I am curious what people coming in cold think any of this means.
